Alexander Stephens

Henry Keys

Note: This letter was addressed “this to Henry Keys Hammelton County West field PO Indiana but there is no date in the letter or postmarked area. This short letter was written on one sheet of paper and it was folded so the middle portion formed the envelope to the addressee Henry Keys. This was from the Henry Keys Papers Collection (collection item No. SC2595) in the W. H. Smith Memorial Library, Indiana Historical Society, 315 West Ohio, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46202.

We assume this to be our Alexander Stephens based on the fact that Alexander is a cousin to Henry and the fact that it is held in the Henry Keys papers however, information as to this Alexander in the archives of the papers would indicate a different Alexander. The archives information is not based on the content of the letters and, I assume, an assumption on the part of the archiver or an earlier genealogist. There was another Alexander Stephens who lived in close proximity to ours but who does not appear to be a cousin of Henry or Alfred Keys. pb
