Dear Brother and Sister

I have been with Eliza for about a week but She will not need one any more in this world. for her poor worn out body is at rest.

She died last Saturday morning at half past two She was conscious allmost until the last breath the last words she spoke were I am so tired the funeral was from the Methodist church of wich she was a member the church was crowded the minister likened her life the sun rising and shining in the dark places and setting in a sea of glory. The church was banked with flowers some of the most beautiful floral pieces that I ever seen she said tell you she would liked to have seen you but she could not wait I have been with her all that I could She said she felt better as soon as I came. Dave has done all for her that is was possible to do. Mr. and Mrs. Barrett were at the funeral, they live at Calton. Hiram has been having the gripe and I all worn out I lifted her so much as she was so restless we wrote to you some time ago but have not heard from you.

Your loving sister Viola.

Note: Letter from Viola (Stephens) Davidson to her siblings about their sister Eliza (Stephens) Manuel. Eliza, or Olive, was actually named Anna Elizabeth Stephens.
